We transform agricultural waste into biochar, locking carbon in soils to improve the atmosphere.

Our work not only reduces emissions but restores soil fertility and strengthens the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and their communities.

PURPOSE

To return atmospheric carbon to soils where it’s needed, enhancing livelihoods.

VISION

A world where carbon markets are transparent, trusted and legitimised, integrated seamlessly into everyday life.

Dark Earth Carbon strives to bring CO2 levels in the atmosphere back to pre-industrial levels.

FAST GROWTH

The African tropics, with its ideal climate, supports some of the fastest- growing vegetation on Earth, serving as a powerful natural carbon sink. However, much of the agricultural waste here is burned, releasing carbon back into the atmosphere. Dark Earth Carbon leverages the region’s natural carbon storage potential while breaking this cycle by transforming agr-waste into biochar.

SUPPORTING SMALLHOLDER FARMERS

In tropical Africa, soils are nutrient poor, and smallholder farmers, despite having minimal carbon footprints, are among the most affected by climate change. Dark Earth Carbon purchases agricultural waste, creating an additional income stream for farmers while producing biochar. This restores soil fertility, increases drought resilience, and improves crop yields, strengthening livelihoods and enhancing food security.

ECONOMICS

Africa offers cost-effective opportunities for carbon dioxide removal, including biochar production.

These solutions not only sequester carbon but also create jobs, support national economic growth, and alleviate poverty.

The region’s combination of high carbon sequestration potential, abundant biomass, and pressing socio-economic needs makes tropical Africa an ideal location for Dark Earth Carbon to drive sustainable development and address climate concerns.
